Group Exhibition & Finalist

West End Art Space

October 2024

The Biennale of Colour and Light returns in 2024 for its fifth edition, curated by West End Art Space Gallery Founder Anna Prifti. This biennial continues its mission to provide a prominent platform for women abstract artists from the state of Victoria, a tradition that began in 2016.

Visitors can expect to see a multitude of contemporary art practices, unified by a common exploration of colour and light. Abstraction will be showcased in a variety of styles – from lyrical and expressive to intuitive, hard-edged, reductive, and minimalist. Each piece will contribute to an ongoing conversation on the interplay of colour and light, demonstrating the depth and versatility of abstract art.

Taking Up Space

Solo Exhibition

Brunswick Street Gallery

July 2023

In Taking Up Space, Alison Willoughby explores unapologetic boldness, with compositions and striking colours that command attention. This body of work centres around claiming the space one occupies, embracing this instead of shying away from it. Intention throughout the colour palette shows that not only bold colours, but the quieter colours also have their moment as the hero.

In this series of paintings, Alison uses acrylic paint on canvas to create joyful abstractions, in which the viewer can see many different things. Drawing on inspiration from nature and flowers, many of the works take reference from organic forms seen in everyday life.

Bubble Pop Electric

Solo Exhibition

Off The Kerb

April 2021

‘Bubble Pop Electric’ is a kaleidoscope of lively colour and form. Akin to upbeat melodies of early 2000’s pop, this series is an exploration of vibrancy and playful saturation.

Inspiration is taken from both the natural environment through flowers and plant life, and the artificial world of pop music and sugary sweets. The contrast and harmony between the two worlds is juxtaposed and celebrated with abstract compositions drenched in electric, bubblegum hues.
